Auspicious Time, Season and Month For Hindu Weddings, According to Hindu Panchangam (panchang) Calander

(Note: The below mentioned period is auspicious not just for marriages, but for other social activities too)

1. The Hindu calander month’s of Kartika (from Nov 14, 2012 to Dec 13, 2012), Magha (from Jan 24, 2012 to Feb 21, 2012) and Vaishakha (from April 22, 2012 to May 20, 2012) are important months for Lord Vishnu devotees. Of these Vaishakha is the most important. Vaishakha (Tamil calander name is “Chittirai”, “Vaigasi”, “Vaikasi”) is second month in the Hindu Lunar calander. Vaishakha is also the first month of the year as per the Bengali (Boishakh) and Nepali (Bikram Sambat) calenders. Baisakhi, the harvest festival is celebrated in this month. Vaishakha (Tamil – Chittirai) Shukla Tritiya is called “Akshaya Tritiya” or “Akha Teej” or “Navanna Parvam”. is the most important day in the Vaishakha month and one of four most auspicious days for Hindus (others are Gudi Padwa, Vijayadashami/Dasara and Balipratipada/Third Day of Diwali). “Akshaya Tritiya” is the day when Lord Shiva and an incarnation of Godess Parvati (“Tadaatagai”) were married. “Akshaya Tritiya” is also the birthday of Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu. It is also the day that Lord Ganesha started writing the Mahabharata to Ved Vyas’s dictation.

2. The six months from Paushu (Tamil “Thai”) and Asaadha (Tamil “Aadi”) are considered auspicious by Hindus. Paushu starts with the new moon in December/January and ends with the summer solstice in July. This period is also called “Uttarayana” since the sun starts to travel towards north and heralds the arrival of summer. The first day of Uttarayana is also the day that Mahabharat’s Bheeshma Pitamaha decided to end his life. The period when the sun travels south is called “Dakshinayana”.

Inauspicious Time, Season and Month For Hindu Weddings According to Hindu Panchangam (panchang) Calander

1. “Dakshinayana” is the reverse of “Uttarayana”, when the sun travels south. This is a period when the Gods sleep.

2. Chaturmas is a four month period when Lord Vishnu, and other Gods and Goddesses, are believed to be in Yogi Sleep, and they should not be disturbed.
