Dating back to 8,000 BC, the Indian civilization is considered the oldest living civilization on earth. The Indus valley civilization was the largest ancient civilization in the world. The Rig Veda, which is the oldest existing book in any language, dates back almost 4,000 years. Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism started in India. Other world religions of Islam, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Bahai and Judaism have substantial following in India.
India is the second most populated country in the world. There is a large diaspora of Indian and people of Indian origin spread across the world. There are 1,500 “mother tongues” or Indian languages spoken in India.
Given the vast cultural, religious and ethnic diversity in India, it is easy to imagine that Indian wedding customs too are just as diverse. This site aims to share some of the rich and fascinating marriage customs and traditions with its viewers.
