Vidya Balan (34) and Disney UTV CEO Sidharth Roy Kapur (38) were married on  14 December, 2014. 

 
 


 
 

This is Vidya Balan’s first marriage. This is Siddharth Roy Kapur’s third marriage. Siddharth Kapur knew his first wife since he was a kid. Siddharth Roy Kapur’s second wife was a Television producer. Siddharth separated from his second wife in 2008 and the divorce came through in the end of 2011.

The happiness at their wedding is evident on Siddharth and Vidya’s face.

Vidya Balan and Siddharth Roy Kapoor’s wedding took place at “Green Gifts” (“Green Mile”) bungalow in Bandra. This bungalow is used for Hindi film and serial shooting.

Above pictures are of the traditional Indian wedding “Mandap” where Vidya and Siddharth were married. During the actual marriage ceremony, Vidya Balan wore a traditional silk mustard colored sari with a pink blouse. She also wore lots of traditional Tamil wedding jewelry.

After the wedding Vidya changed into a Sabyasachi Mukherjee designed red bridal Saree.

Siddharth Kapur wore an elegant and simple yellow Kurta and White pyjama. For his feet he wore “Kolhapuri Slippers“.

  • Siddharth Kapur is half Christian (mother Salome Aaron, a former Miss India, is Christian) and half Punjabi. Vidya Balan is a Tamil Brahmin belonging to the “Palakkad Iyer” community or caste. Their wedding incorporated their religious and cultural backgrounds.
  • In true Punjabi fashion, Siddharth Kapoor arrived at the wedding venue with a Band and his “Baarat” (friends and family who accompany the groom). He and his close relatives wore traditional Pink Turbans (“Paagdi“). Siddharth did not wear a traditional wedding “Shera” (veil worn by grooms to ward off evil).
  • Primarily Tamil marriage rituals were followed at Vidya Balan and Sidsharth Kapur’s wedding. These Tamil rituals included “Mangala Snanaan”, “Malai Mattal”, “Oonjal”, “Kanyadanam”, “Muhurtum”, “Saptapadi” and “Sammandhi Mariyathai”.   • Many of the key Hindu marriage rituals are common among Punjabi and Tamil weddings. These include the bride wearing a “Mangalsutra” (“Mangala Snanaan” in Tamil), exchange of garlands (“Jaimala” in Punjabi, “Malai Mattal” in Tamil), “Saptapadi” (rounds around a Holy Fire), “Kanyadanam” (father of the bride giving the hand of the bride to her husband).
  • After the wedding, Vidya Balan wore traditional wedding “Chooda” (red and white marriage bangles) which is usually worn by a newly married Punjabi bride.

Siddharth and Vidya Balan have received praise for having a simple and elegant wedding. Only family and close friends attended the wedding. Among them were his boss Ronnie Screwvala, with his wife Zarina Mehta. Siddharth Roy Kapur is the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures.

After the wedding, Vidya and Siddharth will travel to the Caribbean for their honeymoon. Post wedding they will live in their sea facing flat in “Parneta” on Juhu Tara Road. Many Hindi movie actors live in Juhu.

Vidya Balan and Siddarth fell in love on the sets of the 2010 Hindi movie “No One Killed Jessica”.

Vidya Balan’s marriage “Mehendi” (Henna) ceremony took place on 12th December, 2012 at her house in Khar. Mainly family members and close friends attended the Mehndi ritual. The only celebrity from the Hindi film industry to attend Vidya’s Mehendi was Rekha.

Vidya Balan went with a simple Mehendi design for her hands. She wore a beautiful Sabyasachi Mukherjee sari worn in Bengali style.

Vidya Balan and Sidharth Roy Kapur’s pre-wedding “Sangeet” ceremony was a family affair and was held at “La Mode” Banquet Hall in Juhu, Mumbai. Vidya Balan’s father, P R Balan, her mother, Saraswati Balan, sister, Priya, brother-in-law, Kedar, twins niece Ira, nephew Ruhaan, attended the “Sangeet”. Siddharth Kapur’s brothers Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunaal Roy Kapur were also present. Kunaal Kapur came with his wife Shayonti and his son. Vidya Balan wore a traditional Pattu saree.

1] Vidya Balan and Siddharth Kapur Wedding Date

Siddharth Roy Kapoor and Vidya Balan were married on the afternoon of  14 December, 2012. Venue of Vidya Balan and Sidarth Roy Kapur’s marriage was “Green Gifts” (or “Green Mile”) bungalow in Bandra West, Mumbai.

For the Balan family, 14 December is a special date since Vidya’s sister, Priya, was also married on this day.

Vidya Balan Bridal Trousseau and Wedding Clothes

Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee designed 18 sarees for Vidya Balan’s bridal trousseau. Of these, 2 special saris, made from Madras silk, were worn by Vidya Balan at her wedding. During her wedding, Vidya Balan wore a mustard colored silk saree with a bright pink blouse. Post the wedding, Vidya changed into a beautiful red silk bridal sari.

While most of Vidya’s wedding sarees were traditional Indian wedding dark colors, 6 saris were multi-colored. Some of these sarees were presents for her mother, sister (Priya) and her relatives.

  • Siddharth Roy Kapur’s family has a long association with the Hindi Film Industry. His paternal grandfather, Raghupat Roy Kapur, left the family business in Lahore and came to Mumbai to enter the film industry. His industry name was G Rakesh and he produced “Shahenshah Akbar” (1943), “Zanjeer” (1947), directed “Lekh” (1949), “Banwar” (with Raj Kapoor in 1950) among others.
  • Siddharth Roy Kapur’s maternal grandparents, Ruby and Sam Aaron, were professional dancers who coached many Hindi movie stars in the art of dancing.
  • Siddharth father joined the armed forces and later became a businessman. His father met his mother, Salome Aaron, while he was posted in Kashmir. Siddharth was born on August 2, 1974.

 
 


 
 

  • Siddharth Roy Kapur’s mother, Salome Aaron / Salome Roy Kapur won the Miss India 1972 title organized by “Eve’s Weekly”. Salome has choreographed Hindi movies, including the super hit “Bobby“. Salome also modeled for Cadbury, Godrej, ITC, Taj Mahal Tea, Century Mills, etc. Salome Roy Kapur has also acted in the Hindi film “Tuhi Meri Zindagi” opposite Deb Mukherjee.
  • Kunaal Roy Kapur is Siddharth Roy Kapur’s younger brother. Kunaal is an actor (“Delhi Belly“, “Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewani“, “Loins of Punjab“, “Mumbai Calling“), photographer, theater director and movie director (“The President Is Coming“). His future projects include directing a mystery horror movie called “The Pool”. He is also the main lead in John Abraham’s second home production.
  • Aditya Roy Kapur is Siddharth Roy Kapur’s youngest brother. Aditya is a VJ and actor (“Aashique 2“, “Dawaat-E-Ishq“, “Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewani“, “Guzaarish“, “London Dreams“, “Action Replayy“, ).
  • The “Roy” in Siddharth’s surname comes from the departmental store (“Roy Bros”) that his forefathers owned in Lahore. Over time the “Roy” got attached to the “Kapur” surname.

  • Vidya Balan was born on 1 January, 1978 in Kerala, India.
  • Vidya Balan made her movie debut in 2003 in the Bengali movie “Bhalo Theko”.
  • Vidya became a household name after her second film “Parineeta”. Incidentally this movie was produced by UTV, but Sidharth Kapur was not yet associated with UTV.
  • Her third film was the super hit “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”.
